HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The warranty card is not dated, and little information seems to exist for this microbrand. As the model is called AB-2010 we are presuming it was designed and/or launched in 2010, so are estimating this was made in 2011. If you know more please do contact us, as we are always keen to get this right whenever possible.
CONDITION
The list price of this watch did surprise us. You can read about them here, but we think there are better choices for dive watches in this price bracket. However, now the watch is used the price tumbles and looks far better value.
This is however a full on divers watch. 300m / 1000ft rated when new, with unidirectional bezel, gas escape valve (untested, but you are not going to use it anyway!), lume pip on bezel and second hand and a screw down crown. The original bracelet also has a flip lock extension to allow you to slide the watch on top of a wetsuit if required. The automatic movement, that they describe as their ETK861, is actually a Seiko NH35. This is not a bad thing – this hacking movement is used in a variety of microbrand watches and is both reliable and easy to service. We would expect a little more if paying £1,500 for the watch new however. The sapphire crystal is unmarked, and has a magnifier bubble over the date window which is stronger than normal – more like the 2.5x magnifier used on Rolex watches. The dial is this watches party trick though. Most of the time it appears as a nice cream, but when it plunges into darkness the whole dial glows, similar to the Heuer night divers of the mid Eighties. This is shown on the video, using UV light. The case does show light scratches, that the new owner could have polished out if they desired. The bezel also has marks, most noticeable is a dent at 24, and the outer cardboard box is also damaged but still nice to have. The bracelet, with extra links, has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
