HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
TAG Heuer launched the Formula 1 range in 1986, and these plastic cased watches have been gradually up spec’ed as time has continued. In 2007 the 4th generation was launched, of which this is one, and by 2011 the 5th generation. Looking at the few other watches available with papers they were all sold in 2008, so it is likely this was also sold in 2008.
CONDITION
This watch’s USP is the alarm, as it is able to be set to the minute via the dial at 9. To do this you press the pusher at 4, and after a second the alarm hands start to move. The alarm does work, but the beep is not loud on these – best described as discrete. We will set the watch up for your timezone after we have replaced the battery – but the instructions for this movement can be found here for future reference. When this watch was designed it incorporated a healthy 200m water resistance, helped by the screw down crown and unidirectional bezel. Despite the Formula 1 range being more entry level for TAG, they didn’t cut back on items like this. You also have a divers suit extension in the bracelet clasp, and sapphire crystal. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The case does have some marks, particularly on the non crown side as shown in the video and the rear where there has been some tool slip. but the bezel is good.
