HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Rado have helpfully confirmed that this mode was made from the start of 2003 until the end of 2011, so we have picked the mid point year.
The Rado Diastar range was introduced in 1962 as ‘The World’s first Scratchproof Watch’. It’s a bold claim, but the use of high tech Tungsten Carbide steel in the case certainly makes it very hard to scratch. This watch is not for someone who favours the Bauhaus style of minimalism – there is a lot going on, and a lot of it isn’t immediately obvious. The patterned dial switches from purple to blue shades, but this effect is helped by the sapphire crystal that has facets running vertically. On the outside edge of the crystal are machined flats too that we have pointed out on the video. These would not be easy to make, and they only add a little, but they do add. The diamond set dial uses good stones of a decent size – Fine White Top Wesselton diamonds according to the Rado website. The bracelet is made from 316L stainless steel, and has an sprung expander fitted to ensure it is comfortable all day. The movement is an ETA 2832-2, just to add to the quality list of materials. Everything is in good order.
