HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It has been difficult to date this model – Rotary note the model on their website but don’t say when it was launched, and with it being made in such small number few comparable watches are available to help. The movement has been in production since 1982, so that doesn’t help either. We can not find the model reviewed by the major watch websites or YouTube, so we think it is from just before these media became so widely used. We could be wrong.
CONDITION
With only 500 made, you won’t find many others. This was the first Limited Edition Elite model Rotary made, and still features on their website here. The inspiration for this watch was the art deco of the 1930’s, but the success of the Franck Muller Casablanca probably helped get the project signed off. Unlike the standard range, these were Swiss made, using ETA 2824-2 25 jewel automatic movements with quick set date. These movements are used by many people and are not cheap – a new movement would cost as much as this complete watch does. The glass is sapphire, and there is a small chip near 7. The strap is new and retains the Rotary buckle. The case is chunky and unpolished.
