This limited edition Co-axial Omega is number 5 in their Museum Collection and called 1948 – The Centenary Watch.  Model reference BG167.2004

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

In the Omegamania sale catalogue they have one of the earliest made of this model as part of lot 279, that included numbers 1-6 in the museum collection (the lot sold for CHF 44,840, or £35,400).  In the catalogue they list the fourth watch made as being made in 2004.  This is number 1124 of just 1948 ever made, so we estimate it was made circa 2005.  We have included a photograph of the auction catalogue.

CONDITION

Omega have a great museum at their HQ in Bienne, Switzerland, and they raided the designs of the past for their Museum collection of fine timepieces.  However, this example is a compromise, as you have the looks of a 1948 watch, but slightly larger (36 mm) case housing a 33 jewel calibre 2202, which was Omega’s top end CSOC approved Co-axial automatic movement.  The Co-axial escapement was designed by George Daniels, and since 1999 has been exclusively used in Omega’s best watches.  It is worth reading about Daniels here, as he rewtote the history of watchmaking (quite literally) and his pocket watches are among the most valuable ever sold.  In summary, this watch has the looks of a 1948 watch with the most up to date movement available.  A car comparison would be a glorious Jaguar XK120, but with the running gear of a modern F-Type.

While this example doesn’t still have the box and papers, it is in good order and working well.  The 18k gold case is unpolished, with just small marks.  The hands are also 18k pink gold and are perfect, as is the copper tone dial that catches the light so well.  The crown does have a dink.  The leather strap is a new aftermarket example, but retains the 18k gold Omega buckle.  It is all working perfectly.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
