This Glashütte Original Senator has the Panorama Date, which has become the brands most obvious technical achievement.  Model reference 100-03-03-02-04

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

This model was only available between 2005 and 2008, and given the low serial number of both the case and the movement (which was also launched in 2005) this is very likely to have been made in 2005.

CONDITION

The small town of Glashütte, near Dresden, is the home to Germany’s watchmaking industry, as well as their museum, watchmaking school, and companies including Nomos, Glashütte Original, Tutima, A. Lange & Söhne, Moritz Grossman and Mühle-Glashütte.  Post second world war the town was in Soviet territory, but since German unification the watchmaking industry there has bounced back amazingly well with original, quality watches leaving in small numbers.

This Senator model has the big split date, which is very clever as the two date discs are perfectly level – if you want to see how difficult that is look at brands like Patek and Lange and you will notice they can not do that.  The movement also has a reset feature, which is the button at 8.  This is less useful, as all it does is move the seconds hand back to 45 minutes much like a chronograph resetting.  The stainless steel case also has a recessed button for advancing the date, which is a pleasure to operate.  The case has a small scuff on the non crown side, shown in the photos.  The in house calibre 100-03 movement has 51 jewels, swan neck fine adjustment and was adjusted to 5 positions – this is very fine horology and it is also beautifully finished, visible via the exhibition case back.  The rotor, with cut out GO logo, is tipped with 21k gold.  The leather strap is a Hirsch Regent, nearly new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  The original GO deployant claps is fitted.  The dial is decorated in the centre with guilloche patterning that really catches the light, and the hands are filled with SuperLuminova.  The dial has a couple of small spots of dirt that can be seen in some lights near 3.  A new model of this Senator, without the decorated dial or reset button, is available on GO’s website for £8,400 currently.
