HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Franck Muller have confirmed that this watch was made before 2007, but couldn’t be more specific. Given the fairly large serial number (for a Franck Muller) on this example we are suggesting the watch was made circa 2005.
CONDITION
The curved case of this Franck Muller is the signature look of the brand, and they wear very comfortably. They are also something that makes this watch stand out to watch collectors from across the room.
This watch is cased in heavy 18k yellow gold, and the case is machined rather than stamped. Not only does this make for much stronger case, but there is more gold weight in the buckle of this watch than in some stamped gold cases. But you would expect machined cases at this price level. Inside is the calibre 2800 movement, which starts life as an ETA 2824 but then Franck Muller modify or decorate nearly all components. Most notable of course is the Platinum rotor segment. We can not think of a technical reason why you need to use platinum here, but Audemars Piguet use 23k gold, so Franck Muller have really trumped them and turned everything up to 11. The dial has beautiful guilloche patterns that do look wonderful, and the numerals are hand painted. There is a mark or small crack on the dial at 8, and a smaller one at 10, but otherwise it is good. The blued spade hands are faultless. We have fitted a new quality crocodile leather strap, as the original Franck Muller strap was worn out, but naturally we have transferred the 18k gold FM buckle to the new strap.
