HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have found period references to the Ergon range from 2005 to 2009, and the photo of this watch next to one from 2005 shows the list price for the watch was $2,600 for the leather strap version. Sadly we don’t have the price for the bracelet version, but it is likely to be a few hundred more. By 2009 the price for the chronograph version was a staggering $15,000! For comparison, in 2005 an Omega Seamaster SM100 was $1,895.
CONDITION
The Ergon model was available in three sizes, 30, 35 and 40mm with the corresponding references EG30, EG35 and EG40. The EG35 can be worn by men who don’t want a large watch, or ladies who do prefer a larger watch. The only thing we would say is check your wrist size, as this bracelet has been shortened and we do not have the spare links. The bracelet has been ultrasonically cleaned, and it very solidly built. The stainless steel case is in very good condition, barely showing a single mark and the tapered sides give it a very sleek look. The stand out feature for us on this watch is actually the numerals, as they have very very fine lines machined onto them that really catch the light in the same way that a compact disc does. The rehaut having the minute markers on is nice too, as it makes the dial appear a little larger. Inside is a nicely decorated Calibre 220 movement, which is based on a 21 jewel ETA 2892-A2 (not that is is marked ETA anywhere). This means future servicing should be reasonable, as the 2892 is found in lots of the better brands such as Breitling and Tag Heuer.
