A distinctive and imaginative watch from A. Dunhill, this D-Type is full of interesting design features. Model reference 8035.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This D-Type model appears in the 2004 Wristwatch Annual, but in 2005 the company logo changed from Dunhill to A. Dunhill as they moved yet further upmarket. The earlier watches have the lower case dunhill engraved on the case between 5 and 6, but this later version just has A. DUNHILL LTD LONDON on the dial. The model doesn’t appear after 2006 in the annuals, so we can be pretty certain this was made circa 2005 and must be one of the rarest versions of an already scarce watch.
CONDITION
Dunhill have always been a high end brand (not many people can ask £185 for their cheapest t-shirts!), but there customers appreciate the quality and slightly left field, tasteful designs. And this watch fulfills that brief perfectly. The case is very angular, and thicker at the top than the bottom to allow the wearer a better angle to read the time. The original strap is a ‘Sam Brown’ style, like the military belt worn by British officers. The strap looks in fantastic condition and if you wanted it could be fitted with a conventional two piece strap as it uses normal springbars. The brown dial has an interesting texture that looks great. The movement is a set and forget ETA quartz, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. Condition wise the watch is excellent, and given the strap condition could be unworn. Definitely worth watching the video to help appreciate this watch.
