HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Integral range goes back to 1986, when it was the first mass produced watch to use highly scratch resistant ceramic in the bracelet, but this model is circa 2004. While the black and gold design has been out for a long time, the unusual 12, 4, and 8 numbers on the dial were advertised in 2004 and 2005 then seem to have been discontinued.
The first watch to use Ceramic was the Omega Cermet, which cost nearly four times as much as a Cal 861 Speedmaster and was a commercial flop. More on the history of Ceramic watches can be found in this interesting article.
CONDITION
There is no mistaking which brand produced this watch. The gloss black ceramic set off with 24k gold plated links immediately tell you that this is a Rado. The size of this watch is the men’s version (the ladies version doesn’t have a date window), but the bracelet has been shortened. This is reflected in the price, so someone with a thin wrist could benefit here. Inside the watch is an ETA quartz movement, and that the dial is under a highly scratch resistant sapphire crystal that is curved. The clasp is signed Rado, and does have a few scratches. The double fold clasp is in titanium. The bracelet is actually wider than the lugs, at 21.5 mm, so this watch does wear larger than the dimension suggest. This watch was $1,590 in 2004, and the current version here is £1,575 new so this watch represents a significant saving.
