This Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk II has just had a very expensive service and is ready to enjoy for years to come.  Model reference 4990.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

This model was first introduced in 2003, and this watch has a serial to show it was within the first 600 made.

CONDITION

The Girard-Perregaux Sea Hawk II was the latest watch to use a name that goes back to the 1940’s, and you can see this write up covering the model history.  Reference 4990 here was the first to use the in house calibre GP 33RO, a 27 jewel automatic with date at 1.30 and a prominent power reserve above six.  A power reserve on a divers watch is such a sensible idea – who wants to entrust their life diving with a watch they think is wound up?  However practical that idea, it is likely that none of these watches got wet – you could buy a Rolex Submariner and an Omega Seamaster for the cost of the Sea Hawk II in 2003.  We have not taken a photograph of the movement, as it is still under warranty after a £1,200 service that included new dial and hands.  That would explain why the dial and hands have such bright lume – some of the best we have witnessed.  The rubber strap is a genuine Girard-Perregaux item with no cracks or crazing, but the keeper looks to be a replacement.  Everything is in very good order and this is likely to be one of the better ones you will find.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
