Many of these Corum Buckingham watches were quartz, but this is the rarer manual wind version. Model reference 157.171.20.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we have the instruction book we do not have the guarantee card for the watch, which would be ideal. However we have seen this model in both the 2003 and 2004 Wristwatch Annual (both with the quartz movement), so we can say this was made circa 2003.
CONDITION
The Buckingham models were introduced in 1965, to celebrate Corum’s tenth anniversary in business. They were distinctly oversized but usually on a very wide leather strap. This model is 37mm wide, but it is the 35mm wide bracelet with no taper that makes the watch feel like a statement. When worn it feels more like a cuff than a watch, but it is not a one trick pony. The dial has a mirror finish with a textured pattern to replicate the case and bracelet. This is quite captivating, as it always looks different. Inside the case is a Corum branded ETA7001 (a rebadged Peseux 7001) which has been used on thin watches since the 1970’s – and while this looks a chunky watch is is slim at just 7.0mm thick. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet still has some of the blue protective film attached, which was also present along the sides of the watch case when it arrived with us but we removed it to show it wasn’t hiding any damage. You can see some fragments of this on the enlarged photos, which we will try and remove. Overall the watch is in excellent condition.
This watch will be supplied with the original inner or outer presentation boxes, instruction booklet papers and our Certificate of Authenticity. The boxes have lots of age marks and the wrong cushion appears to be included.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
