HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Whilst we have the box, we do not have the papers that would have accompanied the watch when new. But we do have a copy of the Wristwatch Annual from 2002, which featured the same model. With a price of $1,695 back then, this was roughly the same price as an Omega Seamaster. If this sounds a lot, Dunhill are an expensive brand – the cheapest thing on their website now is a pair of socks, for just £125…
CONDITION
The most striking thing is about the Dunhillion is the shaped crystal. It is made from sapphire crystal, but with three distinct planes. The design continues onto the stainless steel case. You have to forget the standard sizes with this watch too – the shape and depth means this wears far larger than the case width would suggest. If you are wondering what a clothing company was doing making watches, they first produced watches in 1906 and this model is a modern update of a 1930’s design. In 2002 they were part of the Richemont group, alongside Vacheron Constantin, JLC, Cartier etc, so getting the expertise together to produce the watch was easy. The movement used is an automatic ETA 2671, with quick set date at 6, with the Dunhill signed rotor. The case is large – see the wrist shot rather than the dimensions, and it does have a few marks. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. We have the original, but it is quite worn. We have transferred the signed buckle to the new strap of course.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, and our Certificate of Authenticity. The box is quite low end, and may be a service box rather than a retail box.
