One of the original oversized watches, the Corum Buckingham is a distinctive and comfortable watch to wear.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

These are not common watches, and even though we have a rare Corum book it doesn’t give dating information for this model, just that the range was launched in 1965.  However we have contacted Corum and they have confirmed that this model first appeared in their 2001 range.

CONDITION

Elvis was a big fan of the original Buckingham model, and eventually gave it to a long standing friend.  The watch Elvis wore was up for sale here.  It fetched $22,500.  There has been several variations of the Buckingham design, including numbers in French script.

This is the stainless steel model (Reference 138.181.20).  The case has a slight curve, but is still slim – that is possible because of the ETA 7 jewel movement that Corum chose to use.  The movement is accessed by removing the 9 screws holding the case back on, so is best left to watchmakers.  The watch takes up a lot of wrist space, but thanks to the slim case it doesn’t feel uncomfortable.  The leather strap and buckle are both Corum items, likely to be the originals.  The brushed case has a small scuff above 1, and the crystal does have a scratch near 3.  We have asked Corum for a replacement crystal, and once this is available you can expect the price on this watch to rise.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
