This petite Atlas, in the 18k yellow gold case, comes from one of the world’s leading jewellers – Tiffany & Co. Model reference D286.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have found the Atlas model, albeit the men’s version, in both the 1999 and 2001 Wristwatch Annual books. We also know the Atlas range was first introduced in 1983, and in 2004 the lug design was changed slightly. Given everything we know, we think this watch was made circa 2000.
CONDITION
Tiffany & Co are a hugely desirable jewellers, helped of course by the Breakfast at Tiffany’s film, but they have been New York’s leading jeweller since 1837. The Atlas range is possibly their finest watch design, so identifiable and still in the range today. However the name doesn’t come cheap – The cheapest watch they sell today is £2,925, and if you want a gold case then that increases to £14,900…
This Atlas is more the size of vintage cocktail watches, but the clever design using the bezel to show the hour markers still allows the watch to be legible despite the petite dimensions. Inside the case is a Swiss ETA 6 jewel quartz movement, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The buckle is not by Tiffany, and is gold plated not solid gold.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
