The Kirium Ti5 differs from the standard models as it has a lightweight titanium case and carbon fibre dial. Model reference WL1181.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Kirium range was launched in 1997, and in 1999 the Kirium Ti5 like this watch was included in the range. It isn’t clear when production was stopped, but just two years later the numeral design on the Kirium changed so this has to have been made circa 1999/2000.
CONDITION
Heuer had very strong links with Formula 1 and motorsport, going back to the 1960’s, and when the owner of Techniques d’Avant-Garde bought Heuer in 1985 and the company became TAG Heuer that was strengthened, with TAG owning a part of the McLaren F1 team during its most successful period. Two materials used widely in F1 were titanium and carbon fibre, both of which were light and immensely strong. They are also not easy to work with – the hardness of titanium can be expensive in tooling costs, and an autoclave to set carbon fibre isn’t cheap either! This is why you rarely find these materials in watches. Inside the case is a quartz movement, which again is lighter than an automatic. The rubber strap is not only comfortable but again lighter than a bracelet. This is F1 mindset in a watch – every gram counts. There are some marks on the rubber strap, particularly where the clamp has gripped the same part for all of its life. We will install a brand new long life battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The original rubber strap has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and is full length.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
