This is a classic looking, clean Raymond Weil men’s watch, still with the wallet and papers that came with the watch from new. Model reference 5542
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While the paperwork is not stamped with the date of sale, it is printed with the date of print at 10/98. The watch can not have been made before this date, and given that one of the supplied paperwork quotes Raymond Weil winning Premier watch brand of the Year at the UK Jewellery Awards 97/98 it is also unlikely that this was used into the new millennium.
CONDITION
Aesthetically there is very little to dislike about this watch. The watch arrived on its original strap, but that was worn so we have replaced it with a new leather strap, retaining the original branded buckle. There is no plate wear to the case, the glass is perfect and the dial is very clean. The watch movement is an ETA 955.412, a widely used movement in good brands and this is keeping perfect time as you would expect. However the date does not change automatically – it can be set via the crown, and we have decided to keep the price down rather than repair something that lots of people don’t even use. The nearest new model to compare to would be this Toccato at £695
