The Portofino is IWC’s elegant or classical range of beautiful dress watches.  Model reference 3513

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

While we do not have the papers for this watch, we do have the 1999 IWC catalogue and price list which features this Portofino model reference.  The price in 1999 was CHF 5,950 for the gold version, and 2,100 CHF for the steel automatic.

CONDITION

IWC are better known for their sporty chronographs than dress watches, which makes them a bit of a hidden secret.  This classic dress watch has a slim IWC calibre 37521 automatic movement which was adjusted to five positions, so highly accurate.  You get quick set calendar as well as hacking on this movement too.  The convex sapphire crystal covers the white dial, and you have great contrast with the hands.  The only negative is the gold cap on the crown is missing, which would have had the fish logo IWC use to show their watches were water resistant (but never get any vintage watch wet!).  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  The original gold plated buckle has been transferred on the strap.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
