This series 2 re-edition of the legendary Heuer Monaco is all original and still has the Heuer branded strap and buckle. Model CS2111.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The original Monaco was introduced by Heuer in 1969, as one of the first automatic chronograph watches ever available. It only lasted until circa 1975, and the unusual shape was blamed for relatively poor sales – the irony is that any square chronograph is now known as a Monaco. In the late nineties TAG Heuer made a limited edition (CS2110) of 5,000 re-editions, which quickly sold out. In 1998 they introduced the CS2111 featured here, and then soon after the series three with TAG Heuer branding came out. This watch must have been made circa 1998.
CONDITION
We would prefer an original, model 1133B Heuer Monaco from 1969 if we are honest, but these are now £10,000+ (some are over £20,000!). So the re-edition is great value for money in comparison! This model has the plexiglass crystal, like the original, and an extra subdial. The sculptured case is large, and square watches always wear larger than the dimension suggest, but surprising comfortable. This example is on a Heuer branded leather strap, with the original buckle. The strap isn’t badly worn, but does smell a little stale so we can include a new, non Heuer strap. We have the inner and outer boxes, plus the instructions – not the cushion the watch sits on is square, like the case design. Nice touch! The lume is still quite good. Inside is a Tag Heuer branded ETA 2894-2 movement, with 37 jewels, which is not only service friendly but also running within chronometer specifications on our timing machine.
