Gucci made some of the most desirable dress watches of the late 1990’s. Model reference 9040M
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The 9000 series were the best sellers in the Gucci range and we have a book on 1997 quality watches showing the 9045 model (ladies version of the 9040M). This watch is likely to have been made circa 1997.
CONDITION
The Gucci brand divides people. If this Swiss watch had Zenith on the dial then watch fans might take this watch more seriously, as they associate Gucci with fashion. But the specifications and build quality, as well as the original selling price, all would be in line with something like Longines or Zenith. Both case and bracelet are stainless steel, and the bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The steel bezel has some of the paint still in place with the engraved logos at 12, 3, 6 and 9. The dial is jet black, with a gloss finish to it. This would show any mark, but thankfully there are none. Inside the caseback is the notification that the case is steel and 10m gold plated, because this 9040M model was also available with gold plated highlights on the bracelet. The movement is a Gucci branded seven jewel ETA 955.412, as used in many different good Swiss watches, and it will be fitted with a new battery before being sent out.
