HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
To the best of our knowledge you can not cross reference the serial numbers of Ulysse Nardin watches. But a later model to this was launched in 1998, so this much be earlier than that, and we have found three others with papers that were sold in 1996.
CONDITION
Ulysse Nardin are not the luxury watches you see every day. At time of press there are 82 San Marco models on Chrono24, compared to 31,824 Rolex Datejusts. And the Datejust is probably the watch to compare to – despite the prices being higher for the Rolex than the San Marco. Both are sporty, automatic, quality stainless steel bracelet watches and the size is similar, with the San Marco just being a touch larger. But the Ulysse Nardin has the better bracelet and has the unique GMT function. To use it is simple – set the home time in the window at 11, and then you adjust the local time by pressing the buttons at 2 and 8. The button at 8 advances the hour hand by one hour, and the button at two turns the hour hand back one hour. It can be done on the wrist too, so is beautifully easy to do on an aeroplane for example. The home time is dark after 6pm, so doubles as a 24 hour indicator. The textured dial on this example adds depth and is in great condition, as are the sword hands. The movement is a modified and Ulysee Nardin signed ETA 2892A2, so quite slim and servicing should not present many issues in the future. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. Everything is working beautifully.
