The Tag Heuer 6000 was their top of the range watch in the 1990’s, featuring screw down crown, sapphire crystal and solid bracelet links. Model reference WH1215-K1.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is hard to accurately date Tag Heuer watches without the sales paperwork, but we do know that this watch doesn’t have the screwed bracelet of the early models (which was redesigned, as this did cause case issues – this is the stronger redesign). This watch also has the engraved bezel, that was swapped for an embossed design in 1999 when the hour markers were also changed from baguette sapped markers to Arabic numbers. We have selected 1996 as a mid point between these designs, but we could be a year or two out either way.
CONDITION
You can read more about the Tag Heuer 6000 model range here, but with a word of warning. We have issue 16 of International Wrist Watch magazine from 1992 that talked about the launch of this model, so the start date may be wrong on their article.
So the range topping Tag Heuer 6000 was available in many case materials, and a variety of straps or bracelets. But the best option in our eyes is the stainless steel case and bracelet, as that doesn’t show wear and tear like the gold plated ones. This watch is the mid size version and has a dark blue, almost black dial. The bracelet, made with over 200 separate parts, is very comfortable to wear and has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The sapphire crystal is free from damage. The unidirectional bezel is stiff to turn with your fingers but turns easily enough with a rubber ball – these were designed to be divers watches so when wearing rubber diving gloves this makes sense. A new battery will be fitted before the watch is sent out.
