A retro, limited edition Revue Sport 50’s, with an in house manual wind movement. Revue Thommen got the styling spot on.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Information on this model is scarce, which is often the case with limited editions, but the all round consensus is the model is from the mid to late nineties. This is backed up with the few we have found with sales papers in the sales archives.
CONDITION
Styling a retro watch should be easy – just go to the archives, and copy what was produced in the day. However too many manufacturers mess retro watches up, making the case too large, adding a date function, or sapphire crystal, and then you have a mix of designs. People might think Revue Thommen may have made one mistake with this, and that is calling it the Revue Sport 50’s – this looks to be a more 1940’s design to our eyes, taking a lot of influence from the dirty dozen military watches. However we have found the 1935 Revue Thommen that this model was based on, so they were just ahead of their time. The look and feel is perfect for a retro watch, despite some modern upgrades like stainless steel case, no radium lume and anti shock protection to the movement. The movement is the 17 jewel MSR K1s, which is very nicely finished and partly skeletonised. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The case has light wear marks, but nothing too bad.
