As part of the Mondaine Designer Collection, this dual time watch uses two small separate quartz movements side by side, and still fits in a 36mm case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We were struggling with this one. We can’t find anything from Mondaine online, and while we have found other examples we haven’t seen one with papers to give us a clue. However, we then found that the dual time was part of the Mondaine Designer Collection that was launched at the Basel watch fair in 1995. You could get blue, silver or black dials, and was made from 100% recycled materials. This watch may be slightly newer than 1995, but can not be older.
CONDITION
Mondaine are best known for the their railway lines, as they have clocks in every Swiss train station. This dual time model is also travel related, as you could show home and travel time side by side in a really clear display. The Ronda movements are each operated by their own crown, and work completely independently of each other. The movements are not quite identical – the left dial shows running seconds whereas the right is just hours and minutes. In the video we point out one major advantage of this set up. We will install a brand new battery into each movement before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap appears to be the original when compared to other examples, and could be swapped for a new strap if preferred. The matte grey case is surprisingly compact for a twin time watch, and is made from recycled brass and then coated. There is a small chip on the glass above the word Mondaine. The watch is signed on the dial, case and buckle.
