HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This has been a difficult watch to research, and the general concensus is that the watch dates from the mid nineties. Frederique Constant watches do not feature in any of the books we have from that period, so if you have any other evidence please do contact us.
CONDITION
If you would like a Breguet watch, but do not wish to spend the £8,000+ that a used Breguet similar to this Frederique Constant would cost then this is possibly an ideal watch for you. Of course there are some compromises – instead of solid gold case you have to accept a gold plated case, and instead of a hand assembled manual wind movement this watch has a mechaquartz Ronda movement. This eleven jewel movement has a quartz regulated timekeeping movement, but the chronograph side is mechanical. As there is no running seconds hand for the time there is no indication that the watch is quartz powered, and the chronograph runs at half second intervals and snaps back. We have found an exploded view of this movement, which shows it is not ‘just’ a simple quartz movement. The dial is patterned – not the fine guilloche that Breguet would do of course, but attractive nonetheless. Everything works, but the date quick change button is a little sticky. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The worse thing with the condition is some plating is missing from the crown. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred.
