This full lume dial, Yema Superman II had some serious water resistance and a possibly unique bezel locking method. Model reference V70R26.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Yema has a history dating back to 1948, but in 1988 until 2004 it was owned by Seiko and this is why this watch has a Seiko movement in it. We have found the same bracelet on this watch used in the 1990 america’s Cup special edition, and a French magazine article detailing the new bezel locking mechanism that this watch has from 1994. Given this, it is consistent that this watch was made in 1994 or shortly afterwards.
CONDITION
300 Metres is impressive water resistance – the same as a Rolex Submariner – but in the case of the Yema Superman II it was hoped that wouldn’t be needed – the case back shows this was designed for the French America’s Cup sailing competition. That also explains the bezel is for a countdown, so at five minutes it shows 55 not 05, and the sliding pin going through the bottom lug locks the bezel solid. You can see this working in the video. The rest of the watch is also good quality – the bracelet is all solid links, with screw in pins , and the folding clasp is nicely done. The crown screws down, although in some photos this wasn’t done. The quartz movement is straight from Seiko, just unbranded, and is all working well. The full lume dial is very 1990’s, and has just a touch of patina. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. This is important, as you could not fit another bracelet or leather strap to this watch due to the unusual lugs. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, crown and clasp.
