With it’s pink hands and bezel numbers, this full size TAG Heuer Formula 1 stands out from the crowd. Model reference WA1217.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The pink colour way was introduced in 1991, as model 377.513. During 1992 and 1993 the model designation system at TAG Heuer changed, and this watch has the later WA1217 designation engraved on the case back. The Formula One generation 1 watches were discontinued in 1996, so circa 1994 is a likely production date.
CONDITION
Since TAG Heuer reintroduced the Formula 1 watches with the KITH Heuer models at £1,350 (if you can get one), sales of the originals vintage watches have increased. As ever with Formula 1 models, condition is all important as it is cheaper to buy a good one than restore an older one. The plastic bezels are easy to damage, but this one is good. The worst thing about the bezel is some of the pink paint has rubbed off. The bezel however clicks smoothly in one direction, just as it should. At some point this watch has had a newer ETA movement fitted, but it is done well and they have reused the original signed crown. The dial is very good. The bracelet was an option, and is easier to live with in the longer term. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite short and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and it has the divers flip lock extension still in place (used for the wrist photos).
