HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we do not have the original papers for this watch we researched watched with this model number that have their sales paperwork and the ones we found were from 1992 and 1994. We have picked the mid point.
CONDITION
When you think of Gucci watches in the late eighties and into the early nineties it is probably this style of watch you picture in your head. The word iconic is overused and we wouldn’t go that far, but perfect for the period is certainly an apt phrase. At first you might think this an over simple design, but the details are there that elevate this from a ‘standard’ watch. The gold plating is also on the case back, the dial is deep deep black, and the hands are polished on one side and frosted on the other, giving a 3D effect which is very clever. This model was so popular that there are fakes out there, so be careful. Check that the watch has an ETA movement, stamped Gucci like this one has. Check that the case back pressing is sharp and not uneven. Is the crown signed (this one is). The case edge on this watch has some even wear to the gold plating. The glass is unscratched, and the strap is new – these use 13mm lugs, so the strap choice is quite limited.
