HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Eberhard have been making watches since 1887, and this was a limited edition for the Italian market that referenced one of the models in the companies history. You can see some of their watches in their museum, with a downloadable data sheet available from their website. We have everything for this watch except the papers, but we have found two others for sale with papers and one was stamped for 1990, and the other 1992.
CONDITION
This is a complex watch, but those eight hands and three apertures are all powered by an Valjoux manual wind caliber 7761, which makes servicing in the future easier. You have Day, Date, Month and Moonphase in a full calendar function, which can be quick set. Day and date windows are in Italian, as this watch was designed purely for that market. You also have a 12 hour chronograph, and a 24 hour indicator and constant seconds on the subdial at 9. With all that going on it is surprising that the watch is not difficult to read at a glance. Everything works, and it is all in very good order. The case is made of 0.925 silver, which was then gold plated (sometimes this is referred to as gilt). The case back hinges open to reveal an inner dust cover. There is a cartouche on the dust cover to have engraved, but this example has not been engraved. The watch is still on the original strap, which at 16mm looks thin given the case size but not only is this correct for the period look, it is also comfortable. The hangtag has the price of 4.2 million Lira, which would be about £2,000 back in 1991.
Please note that the original strap is made of Lizard, and under CITES regulations we can not send this to every country (most notably we can not send it to the USA.). We reserve the right to replace the lizard strap with a leather strap, refitting the original buckle, if we anticipate any issues.
