Model 396.1080, this Omega Constellation at first looks like a chronograph but the sub dials are in fact for day and date.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Normally with Omega watches you can date them accurately from the serial number that they used to print on the movement. Then for a short while they started printing the serial number on the inside of the case back, and this either fades off or is cleaned off which is what has happened in this case. However, the model range was launched in 1987, and those early ones had screws on the case back. This is not one of the early ones, so with think it was made circa 1990 (The advert we have is from 1990 too.)
CONDITION
Cosmetically the watch is very good, but there is a but. The watch should have an Omega 1444 movement inside, but this one is not branded Omega. It is the same base ETA calibre as the 1444, but without their branding. We suspect it has been replaced at some point, but as these units are the same except for the branding that is not so important – it is like for like, just without the Omega stamp. Only you and whoever replaces the battery will ever know, and this also explains why the watch is cheaper than others. The original blued hands are nice, with some dirt on the lume, and the numerals look to have been restored repainted previously too. The 1448/431 bracelet is big enough for most wrists and is showing very little sign of wear.
