Gruen clearly looked at the success of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 models and thought – we’ll have a bit of that!
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Not of lot of information is known about these Gruen ‘F1’ homages to the TAG Heuer Formula 1 models, but we do know the TAG’s were launched in 1987 and sold for around a decade. It is highly likely this Gruen version was around at the same time.
CONDITION
Unlike the TAG versions, the case on this Gruen is not plastic but instead steel coated black to look plastic. The bezel is plastic, but is not worn too much and has a nice unidirectional click. You get a quick set date too. The movement uses is also a quartz, but this time sourced from Miyota rather than ETA. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The blue dial is quite clean, as are the hands. The rubber strap strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred – it itself is a homage to the original TAG strap so is perfectly fitting.
