This Sea-Hawk, from the high end brand Girard Perregaux, preceded the Sea Hawk II and is an easier watch to wear every day due to the more reasonable size.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This model was available from 1988 to 2002, when it was replaced with the much chunkier SeaHawk II. From the ‘A’ serial number on the case back we think this watch is from the earlier dates, so we are saying circa 1990. The advert shown is from 1989.
CONDITION
This is quite a rare watch – this is often said, but the only other one we can find for sale is on a leather strap (albeit with box and papers) is in Madrid for £2,249. The scarcity seems to be backed up by this history of the Sea-Hawk range.
This example is on a long and very solid polished bracelet. The dial, complete with gilt lettering, is excellent. The 60 click unidirectional bezel is working perfectly but the bezel insert seems to have areas where the lacquer is lifting. This was a proper divers watch when new, rated to a depth of 500m with a screw down crown. If you intend on diving with a vintage watch we would suggest you get the watch completely pressure tested before getting it wet – it is 25+ years old after all. Inside this watch is the Girard Perregaux ETA based 220 automatic movement, featuring quick set date.
