This Swiss made Bernex ★★★ has a high quality ETA 25 jewel automatic movement, and is in great condition.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Bernex have been making watches since 1855, but the movement in this watch was not launched until 1982 so this has to be later than that. The movement is still current, and costs £225 +VAT to the trade. We have attributed circa 1990 as a likely production date but confess this is only an estimate, based on the styling.
CONDITION
So this watch costs less than the replacement movement would, but it is far too nice to be broken up for parts. The dial is completely faultless, and the case shows next to no wear either. The strap on the watch may have been the original and was far from worn out, but had started to split so we have fitted a new leather strap. The ETA 2824.2 movement has 25 jewel and quick set date, and is working well. Even the acrylic crystal is unmarked, and only the slight wear on the crown plating shows this watch has any age at all. We thought this watch might be hard to accurately date, but when the condition is this good we will buy watches like this every time.
