An unworn ladies Zeno de Luxe watch model with the moonphase movement that was so typical for the time.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Judging by the styling and case size we estimate this was made circa 1989. Sadly the records at Zeno in Basel do not allow us to get closer than this.
CONDITION
Unusally, let’s start with the strap, as it is an unusual strap. It allows you to undo the pop stud to slide the watch off and on the wrist, and one clip fits the watch back easily in exactly the right place. Although this is unworn, there are still some storage marks to this strap. It doesn’t use springbars to attach to the case, but is instead sewn around the flexible lugs. The case is perfect, as is the glass. The crisp white dial has arabic numbers and a date at 6, which can be quickset. However the dominating feature is the moonphase that covers the top half of the dial. Before quartz watches moonphase complications were not incredibly desirable, as if you hadn’t worn the watch for a while the moonphase needed resetting. With the battery powering the Swiss made FEBA (French Ebauches) movement you no longer needed to worry about this, hence moon phase complications became fashionable again. And if the battery has been changed, this movement has the ability to quick set the moon phase as shown in the video. You can use sites like this one for reference of where the moon should be. We will fit a new battery to the watch before sending it out. It is nice to see the original case back sticker in place, but we don’t know if these are model numbers or prices in Swiss Francs.
