What does this TAG Heuer 2000 share with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak chronograph? Read on! Model reference 162.206
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This has to be post 1985, after the investment from Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) invested in Heuer. And the TAG Heuer 2000 range changed style in 1991, so it must be before that. We have found an example in the 1988 catalogue with the same reference number so that year fits nicely.
CONDITION
The TAG Heuer 2000 was available in a myriad of options, from the regular case materials and dial colour to various different bezels and movements. But strangely there were two different chronographs, one quartz and one automatic. This is because Heuer had been an investor in the Lemania and Dubois Depraz DD2000 chronograph module that they fitted to either an ETA quartz movement or, as in this case, an ETA 2892 calibre. TAG Heuer had exclusive rights to use this 40 jewel movement at the time, but later sold the movement now named Lemania 283 to several high-end clients such as Girard Perregaux in their 7000 chronograph, Baume et Mercier and as teased earlier Audemars Piguet used this module in their Royal Oak Offshore and Millenary chronographs.
The bracelet is long and there is also three extra links should you need them. The steel grey dial is quite subtle, and the cyclops magnifier over the date is at dial level, not protruding like Rolex do it. The dial does have some marks and fading, clearly shown in the photos and video. There are just light marks to the case and bracelet, but nothing serious. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and the bracelet still has the divers extension clasp fitted too.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation boxes, and our Certificate of Authenticity.
