IWC have been known for their pilots watches since WW2, and the Fliegerchronograph here just added to that history. Model reference 3740.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
IWC launched the Fliegerchronograph in 1988, with a list price of £1,075 – when average wages were about £12,131.60 per year. While we can not be certain of which year this watch was made, it can not be earlier than 1988 and in the 1990’s the replacement reference 3741, without the tritium dial, was introduced.
CONDITION
Calibre 630 was a bit of a masterpiece, comprising of 233 parts, and was used exclusively by IWC and Jaeger-LeCoultre. While quartz and battery power take care of the timekeeping, the chronograph functions are all activated mechanically, allowing the sharp return of the counter hands like a totally mechanical watch. This also has a golden metal movement cover that is still in place (many or misplaced during battery changes). The dial is the original, with tritium hands and hour markers, which are becoming rarer to find – if the watch needs a new dial IWC would fit a later 3741 dial without the cream tritium that so many collectors like. The case is unpolished, and does have numerous marks. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and buckle.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
