The Santos de Cartier Octo was one of the watches to wear during the 1980’s, and this one is as original as you will find.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We don’t have the papers for this watch, but looking at others for sale that do have sales paperwork they were all late 1980’s, so we are saying this watch was made circa 1988.
CONDITION
Cartier, like Rolex, always should be questioned as to if they are authentic. Both brands were faked frequently, so you can not be too careful when looking at the details. Happily, this watch is 100% original. The correct Cartier 87 movement is inside, which you will never find in any fake. The quality is correct too – not plating wear as these should be solid gold, like this one is. The hands are beautifully blued, to match the faceted sapphire in the crown. This watch is also on an original Cartier strap and buckle, which while the strap is worn it is still nice to have. Most Santos Octo models were on bracelets that are often too small for wrists today, so a leather strap is both practical and desirable. The case is small for a mans watch, which is what this was (the ladies model was 24mm), but now would be described as unisex. There is a small scratch in the centre of the glass that is not that noticeable. The movement has a new battery fitted and is working perfectly.
