HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sadly the hallmarks on this watch are Swiss, which don’t carry a date code. Likewise information from Zenith themselves is thin on the ground, so we have to look elsewhere. Tissot used the same base movements in their watches between 1983 and 1992, which also fits the styling and size of this watch, so we think this was made circa 1987. This also fits the time period where Zenith were only making quartz watches.
CONDITION
You could say that dress watches are only for black tie events, or weddings. But you could wear this this Zenith with a suit, or shorts, to a wedding or to Wetherspoons. It is not flash, but just understated quality. The thin case is solid gold, and apart from a few small marks is in good shape – the worst mark is on the side of the case near 4. The movement is a set and forget ETA 955.412 quartz with quick set calendar. There is no second hand, so nothing gives away that this is not one of the later mechanical watches. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – black would look more formal for example.
