HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Executive range was launched in 1985, the last year of the Lemania/Piaget ownership of Heuer. Techniques d’Avant Garde got involved, and TAG Heuer was born also in 1985. This watch has Heuer dial, crown and case back but a TAG Heuer bracelet – as TAG were introducing the brand they did use up all the Heuer only parts, so these watches with some Heuer and some Tag Heuer parts are known as transitional watches. The 1986 brochure featured a watch with TAG Heuer branding on the dial, so this watch is either late 1985 or early 1986
CONDITION
The Heuer Executive was pure 1980’s excess. The bi metal design, thin ETA quartz movement and size all shout 1980’s, but this design was the forerunner of the S-EL (Sports Elegance) range as Heuer and then Tag Heuer moved into more expensive watches. This Series 1 watch really is in good condition, with just a slight marking to the luminous quarter of the bezel. The satin finished solid link bracelet, with gold plated pins, is good and a decent length. The quick set date works, and the unidirectional bezel turns correctly. The design of this watch, with a lumed bezel, and with a screw down crown (signed Heuer) and a 200m water resistance rating when new made this a genuine divers watch. The slim design wouldn’t catch a shirt cuff like a conventional divers watch does.
