Sought after due to the Ferrari name and the very popular Seiko 7A38 quartz movement, this was an eighties success story.  Movement reference 531.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The model range all seem to date from the mid eighties, and we have found an Italian advert reportedly taken from a 1985 magazine.  The movement was first introduced in 1983, so it can not be older than that.

CONDITION

Ferrari is one of the most recognisable brands in the World, so have always had brands wanting to associate with them.  In 1983 Enzo Ferrari signed a deal with Cartier to make Formula Ferrari watches, but this is where Cartier’s involvement gets very sketchy.  Cartier belonged to a group we would now call Richemont, as Piaget and Baume & Mercier merged in the 1960’s and later bought Cartier.  So the three hander watch was made in the Baume & Mercier workshops, and doesn’t feature the name Cartier at all.  The power of branding and marketing!  But they are called Formula Ferrari by Cartier commonly, even the quartz chronographs like this that have Seiko movements.  No one seems to know where the Seiko powered watches were made, but the case back is marked Swiss case.  The plating is okay but has some areas of wear, and the case and bezel both have dents on the left hand side.  The dial is very good, as are the rosso red hands.  All the crowns and pushers are original and working correctly.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  The bracelet is quite long and has the signed, sprung clasp still too (often lost or replaced as they are not to everyone’s taste).  The bracelet has a unique aspect of connecting tot he case, so please make sure it is long enough as you would struggle to fit an alternative.  The watch is signed Ferrari on the dial, case, bracelet and clasp.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
