A highly sought after Must de Cartier Ronde watch, with box, papers and a Cartier strap and buckle.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we have a stack of paperwork for this watch none of it has a date of sale on it. One of the papers has a published date of 1.3.83, so this watch has to be after this date which fits all the other timelines we know about this model.
CONDITION
Must de Cartier watches came about as the price of gold was making watch production prohibitively expensive – gold values increased over four fold in the 1970’s. So Cartier, who only made watches in precious metals, started making Must de Cartier watches that were vermeil – 18k gold plated silver. Sadly this model was so popular it was faked extensively, but you can see this one has the correct Cartier E90 8 jewel movement and everything is correct, down to the Cartier signed leather strap. These also have very distinct bars holding the strap to the case that are in three parts – we have never seen any fake that replicated these. This one happily is free from wear through the 20 micron gold plate, and is as good an example as you might find. The rectangular models do show wear more than the Ronde ones naturally though. The only part showing any wear is the buckle, but it is the original – they are not signed but are quite unique. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
