One of the last ever quartz Oris watches made, this Versailles model marks a point in time. Model reference 7143.

In 1982 Oris had a management buyout, and the new leaders had a bold (for the time) vision of abandoning quartz movements and only making mechanical watches. The ETA movement had not long been introduced, so this watch has to be around the same time the calibre was launched and the decision to stop making quartz regulated watches happened.

We have said this many times before, but the fashion in the early nineties was thin case, often rectangular and usually gold plated and a quartz movement. This Oris Versailles ticks every box! So why, you may well ask, did Oris decide to ditch quartz movements and only make mechanical watches? Well, the market for the quartz watches was very crowded, and if your watch is very similar to everyone else’s you have no unique selling point. So this is the last of the line, and powered by a 7 jewel ETA 555.412 with quick set date. The case has signs of wear on the plating which looks worse under studio lighting than in real life, and the glass has a couple of small marks, but nothing terrible. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
