HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The quartz period of the 1980’s is forgotten history to most Swiss companies – we think they like to forget as they didn’t make much money then! But it does make researching the still interesting watches that were made then. we have found another watch with the same movement that is hallmarked for 1982 from a trusted source, and circa 1982 certainly fits the styling and materials off this watch too.
CONDITION
The Longines L950.1 quartz movement is the star here. In a period where the main pressure was on price and cost, Longines went down the quality route. This movement has a trimmer to allow precise timekeeping, 11 jewels in a movement that was designed to be able to be serviced – the service manual can still be downloaded here in fact. The only slight issue is the date isn’t quite square in the date window. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The case is 20 micron gold plated, and has stood up well. The dial is a nice black and gold, and we have fitted a new black leather strap to compliment this. The glass has just a few small marks. There will be people that will pay this price just for the movement to restore another watch, but this is far too nice to split like that.
