HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Zenith watches are not able to be accurately dated, as they do not have serial numbers on during this period. However we know the movement was used from 1980 to 1984, and the inside of the case back is stamped ZENITH MOVADO, a company that only existed from 1978 to 1983 after which Movado was sold. That leaves this watch solidly in the early eighties.
CONDITION
Zenith have for a long time made small run production runs of models, often for the Italian market. We don’t have any proof that this watch was part of that program, but normally the mainstream models are easier to research. This is slightly larger than the Cartier Santos of the same period, but the Cartier is the better quality watch. The Cartier is Stainless steel and 18k gold, whereas the Zenith is base metal and gold electroplate. What helps this watch enormously is the condition. There are a few marks from storage, but overall it is excellent. The hangtag suggests this never sold when new when combined with the condition. The bracelet is stunning, but if you fancied a change then you could use any 18mm strap. The movement is an ETA 955.411, with quick set date. The box has signs of wear. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
You might never see another in this condition. It is the first time we have ever seen one of this model, never mind this condition.
