An unusual model this, as we haven’t seen this men’s Omega De Ville before – but we like it! Model reference 191.0106.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can date this watch to being made circa 1980. Omega used 44 million serial numbers in both 1980 and 1981, and this is either late 1980 or early 1981.
CONDITION
This De Ville is so close to being an ultrathin watch – if the case was one tenth of a millimetre less it would qualify as an ultrathin, but regardless it is thin anyway. This is partly due to the flat glass, and the choice of the calibre 1365 movement that doesn’t require a crown. Instead you use a pusher or cocktail stick to advance the nine jeweled movement either by a minute at a time or, if you press and hold the pusher down, by an hour. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The gold indices and hands look great against the black background, but in some lights the reflections from that flat glass can make the hands difficult to see – a slight move or change of light and they are easy to read again. The dial has a matte finish, and some of that is missing on the edge between 4 and 5, but it is barely noticeable when the watch is on the wrist. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The short lugs combined with the current choice of strap will only suit a smaller wrist, but a longer strap can be fitted if required. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and buckle.
