Prim made Czechoslovakia one of fewer than ten countries in the World with a major watch producing industry.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Prim was formed in 1949, when Czechoslovakia was behind the iron curtain and basically under Soviet control.  The movement in this watch, like many Soviet movements, had a long production life of between 1965 and 1993, which gives us a very broad range.  But with a little more research we found an entry in Czech that says this model started production in 1978.

CONDITION

Prim watches were for the working man, but unlike brands like for example Timex or Smiths Empire they used jewelled lever movements rather than pin pallets.  These are not only better when new, but also last better.  Inside this watch is a Prim 66.4 calibre, which has 17 jewels and KIF shock protection.  While it is not finely finished, it was built to a standard to keep costs down.  The case is base metal, with the back appearing to be stainless steel although that is not stamped as such.  The case does have marks, which should be expected.  The dial and hands are in good condition and the movement is ticking away nicely.  The current Prim range are better finished and use higher quality materials, but will cost you a few thousand pounds.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
