A real pop of 1970’s colour, this Ingersoll stopwatch could have been used in schools or sporting arenas.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
As this stopwatch was made in Great Britain, we know it was made at the Ystradgynlais works in Wales that Ingersoll shares with Smiths Industries. This factory was closed in 1980, so the watch must pre date that. While we can not find much on this model, we can see that Heuer had their plastic Trackstar models out in the late 1970’s, so we presume this was made circa 1978.
CONDITION
This stopwatch measures in 1/10th of a second increments, but uses a movement that beats at five times a second. Rather than double the rate the basic movement works at to measure 1/10ths, it halves the dial so every revolution of the hand takes 30 seconds instead of 60. It is a clever solution to be able to measure with relative accuracy tenths of a second, while keeping costs down. And this would have been an economy stopwatch, so to find one surviving in good working condition and with the original cord is quite nice. The plastic case is sealed and was never designed to be serviceable, but it is working well, The black dial is good, with the two tone print clear. This is an interesting and inexpensive addition to anyone’s collection.
This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
