A slim, manual winding Sekonda De Luxe from a period when mechanical watches were losing out to Quartz, LED and LCD watches.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

This movement type was produced from 1961 to 1979, but only between 1975 and 1979 at the Luch factory, and this particular movement is stamped with their logo.  This has to have been made between ’75 and ’79, so we have picked a mid point year as a likely date of production.

CONDITION

The 23 jewel calibre 2209 movement  is a clever and unique design, allowing for a thin movement of just 3.0mm but in such a way that it is still sturdy.  Whoever thought of the design is somewhat of a genius, as it takes a slightly strange mind to have parts of the geartrain turning every 40 minutes instead of sixty.  This was all produced at a price that meant that these were affordable to the man in the street – Beware of expensive imitations was the famous Sekonda marketing line.  This example is in 10 micron gold plated, which isn’t worn badly at all.  The dial is brushed in two different directions, so light is always bouncing off in different ways and keeping the watch interesting  There is some light scoring around the centre of the dial.  The strap and acrylic crystal are new, and this watch will appeal to novice and experienced collectors alike.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
