HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We contacted the helpful people at Rado with photos and serial numbers for this watch, and they confirmed that this model was being made circa 1977.
CONDITION
This is a scarce watch – we could not find another for sale currently. While at first glance this looks like a Datejust lookalike, the second look you see the differences. Just the fluted bezel, size, all stainless steel case and lug size is all very similar, but the Rado Stag has the colour of the anchor logo at 12, and the day window which you could never get on a Datejust. After that you see more differences than similarities – the two tone bracelet it more Rado’s own design, and it has a sprung clasp to ensure all day comfort . The dial is very clean, and now it has been serviced so does the ETA 2824 automatic movement. The 25 jewel movement has quick set day and date, both operated via the signed crown. The day can be set to either English or Spanish. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
The Stag is a great name, and we are surprised it is not used more often by Rado in their modern range. The Triumph Stag was in production at the same time as this watch was made, so maybe there was a copyright issue? But if you drive a 1977 Stag then we have the right watch for you!
