Aris is not a brand we have encountered before, but we bought this de Luxe model because it looked nice and has a decent ETA movement.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

We know that Aris was registered first in 1976, so the watch much be later than this.  But as can not find out much more about the company we must presume they didn’t last long.  The ETA 2788 movement was in production from 1969 to 1982.  From these facts we deduce that this watch was probably produced circa 1977.

CONDITION

This fairly large Aris has a good gold plated cushion case with hidden lugs, and a quality ETA movement inside.  The automatic movement in this watch has quick set date, but you have to set the day manually.  We have fitted a new crystal and case seal.  The rotor on the automatic mechanism states 17 jewels, whereas the dial says 25 jewels.  Whether this is a replacement rotor, or a 17 jewel version of the ETA 2788 we are not sure (it was available in 17, 21 or 25 jewel versions) The lume on the hands is all in place, but not very visible in the dark any more.  However the white hands with the contrast against the gold dial do make this a very legible watch.

On the timegrapher the watch is reading to be very accurate (+2 seconds a day), but it also indicates that the watch would benefit from a service to reduce the beat errors and increase the amplitude.  We have given two prices, one serviced and one without, to give you the maximum choice.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
